Artisans carefully teach traditional techniques.

Even if it's your first time, you can confidently delve into the deep world of washi paper.

Step 2.

Using a special papermaking frame, you slowly scoop up the fibers in the water. Under the guidance of a craftsman, by moving it rhythmically, you can create an even and beautiful layer of Japanese paper. Enjoy the feel of the water in your hands.

The finished paper is unbleached, showing the natural color of the plants—a soft brown. You can include things like maple leaves or colored paper in the pulp. If it's something thin, you can even bring your own materials.

Step 1.

Preparing and explaining the ingredients

First, we'll learn about 'kōzo' and 'mitsumata,' the raw materials used for making washi paper.

We'll talk about how these natural materials are transformed into paper, along with their history and the special care taken in the process.

Step 3.

We squeeze out any extra water and carefully let it dry. Gradually, the firm texture that's unique to washi paper starts to appear. You can take the finished washi home with you the same day.
